Provides access to housing programs across SDG townships

Housing Programs:

Affordable Housing: You can apply for affordable housing apartments at below-market rent levels in the City of Cornwall as well as in the Three United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry. Housing Services provides safe, affordable homes for seniors, families and adults in our community.

Social Housing (Rent Geared to Income Program): The Social Housing Rent-Geared-to-Income (RGI) Program provides units for individuals and families with low-to-moderate incomes, including seniors and people with disabilities who can live independently with community support. Rent is based on 30% of household income, or a provincial scale for OW/ODSP recipients.

Rent Supplement Program: A Rent Supplement is a monthly subsidy paid to the landlord on behalf of a individual or household in need of rental assistance.

Canada Ontario Housing Benefit: The COHB program helps with affordability of rental housing by providing a Portable Housing Benefit (PHB) payment directly to eligible individuals or households in housing need.

Domiciliary Program: The Cornwall SDG Human Services Department offers financial assistance for eligible individuals who have a medical need for Domiciliary Care but are not able to cover the costs.

The Homelessness Prevention Program: The Homelessness Prevention Program (HPP), has the ability to assist families in maintaining a permanent residence, rather than face eviction and homelessness by making a payment to cover arrears, moving expenses and minor relocation expenses.

Ontario Renovates: Ontario Renovates is a forgivable loan / grant program for low-to-moderate income homeowners in Cornwall and SDG for essential home repairs and accessibility upgrades.

United Way/Centraide SDG: Funds and supports local housing-focused agencies and programs in SDG.

Emergency Shelter and Crisis Support:

Naomi’s Family Resource Centre: Emergency shelter for women (with or without children) experiencing physical, emotional, sexual or financial threat/violence.

Maison Baldwin House / Maison Interlude House: 24-hour crisis accommodation and support for women and children dealing with abuse.

Leeds and Grenville

Leeds & Grenville- Social Housing Registry:

Manages centralized waitlist for rent-geared-to-income (RGI) units and affordable housing across the counties.

Housing Programs:

Rent-Geared-To-Income (RGI) Housing: For households residing in a rent-geared-to-income unit, assistance is provided in the form of a reduction in the amount of rent payable. Tenants eligible for rent-geared-to-income assistance will be charged approximately 30% of their household income, up to the maximum unit rent.

Affordable Housing: Rent for affordable housing units is approximately 80% of average market rent as published annually by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). Affordable housing is available in Brockville, Elgin, Prescott, Kemptville and Oxford Mills.

Housing Allowance: A housing allowance provides assistance directly to low-income renters to help make rents more affordable. Because the allowance is paid directly to the individual, renters may continue to receive it when they move.

Ontario Renovates: Ontario Renovates provides a loan to low income households to make necessary repairs to their home. The loan is interest-free and will be forgiven if the household lives in the home for at least ten years.

Homeownership Program: The Homeownership Program provides assistance for a down-payment to households who are buying their first home. Assistance is in the form of an interest-free loan.

Secondary Suites Program: Funding in the form of a forgivable loan is available to home owners and small landlords in Leeds and Grenville to construct a secondary suite, also known as a granny suite, garden suite, or second unit. The creation of a secondary suite can make your mortgage more affordable through the rental income received.

Homelessness Prevention Benefit: The Homelessness Prevention Benefit (HPB) is for low-income households in Leeds and Grenville to assist with obtaining or maintaining their housing.

United Way / Centraide L&G: Funds and supports local housing-focused agencies and programs in L&G.

Shalom Small Homes: Shalom Small Homes Kemptville desires to relieve poverty by building sustainable small homes that will provide residential accommodation below market rate for people over 55 years of age who are in need.

Emergency Shelters & Response: Emergency shelter services and After-Hours Homelessness response line.

Connect Youth (John Howard Society): Short-term transitional housing and intensive case management for youth (ages 16-25) experiencing homelessness.

Leeds and Grenville Interval House: Emergency shelter and housing support for women and children escaping abuse.

Cooperative Care Centre & Warming Centre (Brockville): Shelter support services for people in need.

Ontario Works (OW) & Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP): Income support which may include housing assistance or help with rent via local OW/ODSP offices.
